Hola amigos!
This past weekend consisted of my final European excursion to Roma, Italia! I took advice from my Italian travel guide, commonly known as “Eat, Pray, Love”, and indulged in Italian food all around the clock. I ate my body weight in numerous pizzas, pastas, and gelato(at least 3 times a day!!). When I arrived in Roma, I had to take a bus to the city center which luckily was right next to the hostel I was staying in! I was really nervous to stay in a hostel, but it ended up turning out to be an awesome experience! I flew in late the first night and was starving, and ended up going out to dinner with the Austrailian I met in my hostel and we had the most amazing conversations all night- I was actually kind of glad I had ended up in a hostel on my own! I met so many cool people! A little advice for anyone who is planning on going to Europe- you should only stay in hostels! You meet SO many cool people and it’s way cheaper and honestly, when you’re exploring all day, luxury really isn’t necessary for those 6 hours of sleep you get.The next day my friends and I met up at the Spanish Steps and we took a tour of the Vatican museum and Vatican City, which was really awesome. We got to go in the Sistine Chapel( I didn’t get the memo on the no-shoulders rule, so I had to buy a random scarf last minute outside the church just to be allowed in!) Just a little background in case you’re as clueless as I was, the Vatican City is the smallest country in the world; it’s like its own city/country within Rome, and it’s surrounded by all these big walls. It’s the holiest city in the world- there were even monks walking around, which was really weird for me to get used to. Fun fact, it’s the only city in the world with no birth rate- reason being, everyone living there is either priests, monks or nuns! After leaving the Vatican, it was deathly hot outside in Rome, so of course getting more gelato was an easy fix. Then we went to see the Trevi Fountain which is the most beautiful fountain I’ve ever laid eyes on. I threw my coin into the fountain, so looks like I’m coming back to Rome for some more!! The next morning was my favorite part of the trip- tour of the Colosseum!! I got to walk where all the gladiators used to fight! It was seriously so amazing to be in such a historical place it was unreal! After a few hours of walking around we stumbled upon this little pizzeria and literally had the best pizza of my life, my mouth is watering right now just thinking about it! Right by that restaurant were the “holy steps” which apparently Jesus set foot on! Unfortunately they were gated off so I couldn’t walk on them, but got plenty of pics for sure! Things are fairly close in Rome, so we walked a ways to go see the Pantheon, got some more gelato, then got to go inside the church! Another fun fact, the Pantheon has the largest all-cement cathedral in the world! It was pretty late at this point and everyone else went out to their hotel, so I took my time to explore more o fthe city of Rome, and wen’t out to a little Ristorante and had the most incredible mushroom fettucine alfredo ever! And of course, gelato AGAIN. Final meal in Italy made the whole trip complete! This was my last night of relaxation before finals week hit! The next 4 days consisted of nothing but homework and saying goodbye. I’m currently on my plane ride home, after many tearful goodbyes L Spain has been everything I hoped for and more, and it’s hard leaving a place that I now consider home to me! I’ll be landing soon in America, coming home to all of you once again! Adios mis amores <3 .
